How do I find my payment reference number?

If you need to make a payment to Parking Space Management, either via our website or through our payment line, you’ll need your 12-digit Parking Charge reference number. This number can be found on all correspondence you’ve received, on documents from debt recovery agencies, and in the ‘particulars of claim’ if legal action has been initiated.

Note: When using our automated telephone line to make a payment, replace the forward slash (/) in the middle of the reference number with an asterisk () on your keypad. For example, 123456/123456 should be entered as 123456123456.

What happens if I ignore a Parking Charge?

Ignoring a Parking Charge can lead to significant consequences. If payment is not received, actions may include referral to a Credit Reference Agency, solicitors being instructed to secure immediate payment, debt recovery measures, or court proceedings, all of which could incur additional costs. If you wish to challenge a Parking Charge, we recommend that you submit an appeal as soon as you receive the notice.

Why is car park management necessary?

Parking Space Management ensures that motorists adhere to the terms and conditions of parking, which helps maintain order and availability in car parks. This includes enforcing maximum stay periods, commonly used by retailers to ensure turnover of spaces and availability for genuine customers, and ensuring full payment at paid parking sites.

Why did I receive a Parking Charge?

Parking Space Management enforces clear terms and conditions in the car parks we manage, as outlined on the signage within each car park. If these terms are breached—for example, by overstaying a free period or failing to pay—the result is the issuance of a Parking Charge. Further details about why the charge was incurred can be found within the Parking Charge notice itself.

I tried to pay for parking but didn’t receive a ticket from the machine. What should I do?

Many car parks managed by Parking Space Management use automatic number plate recognition (ANPR) cameras, so it’s not always necessary to display a ticket. However, it’s important to correctly enter your full vehicle registration at the payment machine when purchasing a ticket. If you don’t receive a ticket, it could indicate that the transaction wasn’t completed properly, and your payment may not have been successful. Always read the parking terms and conditions carefully, as they can vary between car parks.

Can I obtain a contract parking or a season ticket?

If it’s possible to purchase contract parking or a season pass at a Parking Space Management site, all relevant details and instructions will be clearly displayed on the signage within the car park.

I wasn’t the driver at the time of the Parking Charge. What are my options?

Under Paragraph 9(2)(b) of Schedule 4 of the Protection of Freedoms Act 2012, the operator must notify the registered keeper that the driver at the time is responsible for paying the Parking Charge in full. If the operator is unaware of the driver’s identity, the keeper must provide the name and current postal address of the driver and pass the notice to them. If the charge remains unpaid after 29 days and the driver’s details have not been provided, the operator has the right to recover the unpaid charge from the registered keeper. This is applicable only in England and Wales, as outlined in the Protection of Freedoms Act 2012.

Are blue badge holders exempt from private parking rules?

Blue badge holders are entitled to park in certain restricted areas on public highways for up to three hours, though local rules may vary. This concession does not apply on private land. Some landlords may offer preferential parking for blue badge holders, but generally, the same terms and conditions apply as for other users, including any payment requirements and maximum stay limits. Always check the terms and conditions displayed on the site’s signage.

How was a contract formed with the driver?

Parking Charges are levied based on a contract set out via the signage at the site, which details the conditions under which motorists are authorised to park, whether by payment or within a specified free period. A Parking Charge will be payable if these conditions are not met. Our signage is designed to be clear, visible, and in compliance with the BPA Code of Practice, ensuring motorists understand and agree to the terms upon entering and remaining at the site.

Management FAQs

How do you distinguish between genuine customers and non-customers?

At Parking Space Management, we start by understanding your business, its challenges, and your customers before anything else. This ensures we tailor the right solution from our extensive portfolio. Each solution is bespoke, whether your site requires an in-store terminal to verify customer purchases or a pre-booking system that matches vehicles on entry. Let us know your concerns, and we can take it from there.

What should I do if one of my customers receives a parking charge notice?

Maintaining your reputation is paramount. We collaborate closely with clients to identify legitimate car park users and tailor parking solutions that align perfectly with your operations. Before issuing any Parking Charge or Warning Notice, we perform a 21-step audit, ensuring an 82% success rate of appeals upheld at the Independent Appeals Service (POPLA), which is one of the highest in the industry. If a customer does receive a PCN, cancelling it should not be difficult, though we provide guidance on setting precedents for various scenarios.

Does Parking Space Management monitor the ANPR system to ensure it's operational?

Yes, our internal automated systems continuously monitor over 2,000 components, providing real-time alerts on every aspect of the platform to ensure optimal performance. This is supplemented by third-party monitoring, which provides additional failover and alerts in the event of a major issue.

What other solutions can integrate with Parking Space Management's ANPR technology?

Having managed thousands of car parks, we understand that no two are alike. In addition to ANPR, we offer a range of flexible parking solutions and functionalities to meet your specific needs. These include payment machines, handheld devices, pre-payment apps, real-time diagnostics, permit management systems, and barriers.

How much does it cost to install ANPR technology?

Installation, management, and ongoing maintenance of our ANPR technology can be provided at no charge, depending on the specifics of your car park. Our expert sales team will review your site to ensure our ANPR solution is the perfect fit for both your needs and ours.
